I reloaded a Dell Dimenison 4100, Windows ME, system had crashed out. Now every time I boot up, the screen shows the fixed disk, cd-rom drives and the message to press <del> to resume, press the <del> key and windows loads great. I have entered setup and set to default and rebooted also have moved the onboard jumper even removed the battery but no joy ????????
thanks

"I have entered setup and set to default "
Are you talking about your mother board options? If not have you tried entering your mother board setup/bios to correct the problem?
MY guess is your motherboard is setup to display a summary screen! A summary screen shows information on the computer, if you are having no other problems with your computer, other then this screen i would let it go as it doesn't hurt anything just displays system information. Usually you can press delete to get into the mother board setup to change this, you'd want to disable the summary screen. M/B's do differ so it may say display system information at boot ect...
"moved the onboard jumper even removed the battery" I'm not sure what a jumper would have to do with this unless you mean you tried to short the CMOS. As for removing the battery this resets the CMOS and should have put you're board at its default values. Sometimes you need to remove the battery for several min's and other times you need hour's. As i said before if it doesn't give your computer any problems i would let it go! You may also want to check the mother board manual for additional information.
Good luck,
CoR.

Thanks CoR for your response.
I have been in setup but can't find option for showing sys info. done some checking it seems that the HDD could be the problem. any input to this???
thanks

Make sure the HD is configured ahead of the CD-ROM drive as a boot device in BIOS.

If you suspect the harddrive you may want to download the harddrive diagnostics from the manufacturer's web site. It appears from my brief investigation that the harddrive is perhaps a Quantum...
If you don't know who the manufacturer is you might be able to find out in device manager after windows loads...or, it might show up during the boot process as the devices are polled...
