Computer refuses to shut down

I'm taking a class that covers Advanced Server so I am running it on my home PC to leart it but I now have an annoying problem. When I attempt to shut the system down, it closes Windows but I have no soft switch. The screen goes blank but the power is not shut off. I could be mistaken but I think it shut down the first few time after loading it.

you probably have a program that Windows is having problems shutting down. You could try a process of elimination and c+a+d to close down whatever is running to shut down one thing at a time whatever is running and then shutdown the system
