Hi. I recently purchased two K7T Turbo2 Motherboards. Both for the most part are working fantastic, however, on one of the systems, we are getting lockups on certain webpages (mainly pogo.com [kids like to play spades online]). Both systems got *fresh* installs of Windows XP, as well as all of the appropriate updates from MSI, as well as Microsoft driver updates. Both PC's have the exact same specs:
AMD XP 1700+ CPU
MSI K7T Turbo2 MB
512 MB RAM
GeForce2 MMX 200
40g HDD
400w Sparkle PS
Windows XP
Seems the page locks the entire system up, just before its about to run the actual game. I've messed with settings in Internet Explorer as well, and it still locks. Works just fine on the other PC with the exact same setup. Could this be a bad install of XP, or something else causing this problem on the other PC? Hopefully someone can offer some assistance. Thanks!

Hello enigami,
Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
Are you getting any error messages along with the lockups?

Nope. The mouse pointer stops moving altogether, and if you wait about 60 seconds or so the mouse will move again a little bit (from the movement that still was going on before it locked). You can continue to wait and the mouse will move little by little but you ultimately need to reboot to make the system usable again.

I've been spending some time after a GOOGLE (http://www.google.com) search using: IE page lockups XP. Some very interesting reading! This (http://www.networking.tzo.com/net/software/readme/faqvl019.htm) caught my eye because I have an ASUS MB with VIA chipsets.
Isolating the variable between the two boxes is going to be a challenge. Since you can compare them side by side I would suggest looking at your security settings in Internet Options, both Security and Advanced.
Also, any additional software installed, especially kids games, on the system in question? Software installed correctly...All tasks closed except for Explorer and Systray (Ctrl+Alt+Del)? I've found my kids installing without closing down...and have created some problems...along with a bunch of unwanted/unsolicited programs dumped on the system. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif
BTW...no need to quote an entire post...just cut and paste anything specific you want to address. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have an Athlon 1600XP on an MSI K7T Turbo2 and I get the same lock ups whilst on the net.
I am with AOL and(cynically)thought it was something to do with them.....but now I am not sure.....
My system locks up for a minute or two at a time and like you said, after that, the mouse pointer moves a little and everything goes back to normal, and you can continue as if nothing happened....sometimes it just freezes and you can move your mouse pointer around and click on the web page you want to load, and after a delay of about a minute, the little AOL sign at the top right of the screen starts moving again and the page loads up.
I have`nt had to restart my system yet because of a total freeze, but other than that,my symptoms are similar to yours......
Anyone got any Ideas what to do to sort this.......its driving me nuts!!!!

Actually, I think I've somewhat narrowed the problem down. It primarily happens when using pages that require VM (MS Virtual Machine). I went to pogo.com and just let it sit this time, after about 2 minutes, it told me that my internet connection was lost (we have roadrunner hooked up to both pcs). I've tried to re-install the VM from Microsoft's webpage, but its still not working. I also read somewhere that its possible that the ethernet card could be causing this problem (I myself dont quite see how, but maybe someone can shed some light on that). In that pc, there is a netgear FA311 (whereas in the 2nd pc of the exact same type, the *only* difference is that it has a 3com eth card). *COULD* the nic be causing this problem? I even went as far as re-installing WindowsXP, going to pogo.com, and letting *IT* update the VM stuff, and still, lockups, and having to either reboot, or manually renew the PC's IP (as it seems for some reason the lease on the IP gets booted out of the system).
