Seems like XP needs a Security Patch.
http://www.canoe.ca/CNEWSTechNews0112/20_windows-ap.html
Major problem in the making.
Article also states 7 Million copies of XP were sold in the first two weeks it became available retail.
That is some Major Bucks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

That's M$ marketing for you...most of those are OEM sales which only means that Compaq, Gateway, Dell, HP etc. bought tons of licenses...actual consumer purchases of XP are FAR lower and don't match the sales of Win98 from what I've read...

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Good thought hg.
My line of thinking was more like...... After all this marketing hype by MS $1.00 per rolls into Uncle Bill's coffer.
7 Mil in a couple weeks...... Pocket Change.
Didn't take a 21 yr. old PC geek long to figure out how to break XP wide open. (Ex-hacker) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Here's a Patch for this major XP security problem.

Can't wait to get to get me an O/S that comes with a Firewall.

XP comes with a firewall (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/planning/techoverview/security.asp) if you can call it that.
This is how to disable Win XP's firewall (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/networking/icf.asp) so you can install a real one

Wasn't XP marketed as having great security features?

You guys might also want to look into IPSec. The IPSec interface in Windows 2000 and XP can add another layer of defense to your computer. To access it go to the "Local Security...." icon in "administrative tools".

ranchdog,
If you're looking for an operating system that's heavy into security, give OpenBSD a try. It's free and opensource too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif.
