Just wanted to tell you all that I have started a new web site forum called CurEvents.com (http://www.CurEvents.com/vb/), which is dedicated to general discussion of various subjects focused on world events and happenings. You know how here on the PC Guide Forums we specifically discourage talking about politics, or religion, or social policy or other controversial topics? Those are the bread and butter of CurEvents.com, along with breaking news, hobbies and other interests. Think of it as the "After Hours Club" taken to the next dimension. ;)

I created that site on the spur of the moment after a situation arose on another forum of which I am a member. I expected a handful of other members of that forum to come over, but instead dozens did, and the site got very busy in less than 24 hours. This was totally unexpected by me, and is the reason why things got so slow around here this week. Things are better now because it is a holiday weekend in the US, but that will probably change again on Monday. I already am working on a hardware upgrade to resolve this, but it may take a few days.

If you are interested in being involved in a general discussion forum, feel free to go over there and register. (Registration requires me to manually approve you, so there may be a delay before you can post.)

WARNING: This site is very different from this one. Most of the people are friendly but it's much more of a "shoot from the hip" type of place, and it's really suited only to adults. (There's not much "adult content" aside from a bit of strong language, but it's not a place for kids, really.)

The "culture" is rather different from here and you might find some of the views expressed unusual. Also, many of the people know each other from the other site I mentioned. So it might take a bit of getting used to.

I really do want to try to get as many different people with different views as possible, so if you think you might be interested, I encourage you to check it out. I realize many of you won't care, but I didn't want it to seem like I was trying not to tell you all about it. ;)

PS My user name there is "Aleph Null".

Went over there and checked it out briefly.

All I can say at the moment is WOW! ;)
Pretty cool Charles. Man! You are one busy guy.
Like you said, looks to be growing very fast and may very well become REALLY popular.

I can think of a few here that would LOVE it over there....I won't mention any names. :p
I'll be looking in some more from time to time.....some interesting stuff to say the least.

Right now I can't decide if I should put the URL in my "Forums" Folder or my "Charles M. Kozierok" Folder. :D

My observations ... for what they're worth ...

Nice site, really great idea. I expect that it will be very popular. One bit of advice for anyone considering more than a short visit ... wear your pads, it's like a hockey game. Expect some high sticking and body checking. :D

I like that site but I don't have much time and completely believe what happens there is not really suitable for me..I still like computer programming and hardware better..

Thanks jabar. :)

pop pop: Saw you there, even started a "welcome" thread for you as the first of the PC Guide Forums people there (check the Lounge.) Yes, it is more rough-and-tumble than this place (I did warn you! ;) ) but for the most part there are lines and people don't cross them.

Dicots: I fully expect most people here will feel the same way. There are just some folks that always wanted these forums to allow a broader range of discussion topics, and for those people CurEvents.com is perfect. :)

Aleph-null: The number of elements in a countably infinite set.

Not all infinite sets have the same number of elements.
Aleph-null is the smallest infinite cardinality.:confused:

Who's been reading Georg Cantor then?

david eaton: I have, a bit, and it's taking me some time to grok (see the last line of ixl's first post in this thread if you're not sure why I brought it up).

I had noted that! And I agree, Georg Cantor takes some understanding! Perhaps one day, I 'll have another go at him.
