It has been quite long since I last played my CD on my WinPlayer, my Os at the time was ME, it worked really fine...
But now under win2k or xp, it stops working and freezes my computer. I couldn't format my CD inwin2k/xp as well...
I am sure that this CD is not human, and it can't understand what I really want...just the same as the fact I am completely dumb about its structure.

How could I tell the guy who produced it when creating his CD to enclose a message to tell his users something about his CD ? Why did he lie to me about that ? I have spent my saving money on it, why game ?

Well, mainly because you posted it only a couple of hours ago and we are not all sitting here waiting for people to post so that we can jump on it right away... Also because I am not real sure what you are asking... It sounds like you have a CD that isn't working, but I am not sure what you are saying beyond that... Is this a data CD and you need to recover data on it?? Is it a program?? Please explain the problem a bit more clearly....

It's a CD with lots of songs and that's all...

I am still not clear on the problem... The main reasons a CD filled with songs might stop working is that it is damaged, it is blocked by copy protection software or it is simply incompatible now that you are using a new OS... Are you also using a different computer and CD drive?? This can easily happen if either drive is not quite calibrated, particularly if the recording drive wasn't....

my CD is not damaged, I can still play it in win98/me but why is there incompatibility? I don't understand...
Can you also tell me how to fix it now ? I really want to know the truth...

As I said earlier, it could be due to some copy protection scheme... Otherwise I don't know...

You are going to need to provide a lot more detail about the situation to get help with this... As I said earlier, I don't really understand what you are saying is going on very well...

One option could be to copy the disk as a new disk on a system where it works and try it on the system where it doesn't work....

Do other cd's work in your new pc? Music and data?

Is the cd a commercially produced music cd or a burned copy?

Are the tracks mp3's, cda's or other forms of music tracks?

Is the cd a cd-rw?

Budfred, i already tried out what you said, I could copy into another disk but the new one just behad in the same manner.

All of other cd's works fine, only this one doesn't work out for me, and this is the only one whose contents I love to listen most.

Is the cd a commercially produced music cd or a burned copy?
Why do you say so ? Even when it is a music cd it is only burned for the listener and by the listener only...
All the tracks are dat's which surely can be played in winplayer...That cd I think is a cd-r which can be copied into another one, right ?

If it's working in 98 and ME pc's but not in 2K and XP pc's, it must be a codec needed or even some malware or someting on th XP box preventing playback.

You mentioned 'format the cd' in your first post. If you format a cd, don't you destroy the path to the data? Also 'dat' files are data and not any of the common music files such as cda's or mp3's.

If the files are on a cd-r or cd-rw and you have not 'closed' the session, it will only be able to be read from the drive that is in the process of making the cd. No other cd-rom or burner will read it until it is 'finalized' in the original cd-burner. Then the other drives can see it.

Thank you, I downloaded codec from MS and executed things are fine but my files till do not want to work, because they might think I am a liar whereas it is me who is thinking they are liars...

It is only a cd-r but I don't know why I just keep thinking about it all the time and if everytime I think of how to make it work, i hate it more. But I can't let it go...what can I do ?

I feel as if there's some language semi-barrier here. What is your native language if you don't mind my asking?

What confuses me in your posts is where you refer to 'they' and 'liar'. Who are 'they'? And why do you think 'they' will think you are lying?

Now, an attempt to resolve your dilemna.

Are you the one who burned this cd-r? I repeat from my post above, was the cd 'closed' (finalised) after the session? If you don't know, please say so.

Put the cd in your 9x box. Cancel the autoplay if it begins. Go to My Computer and double click on the cd-rom that has the troublesome cd in it. Highlight one of the files. Right click on it and choose properties and please describe in a post what the files types and size are of that one. Then put it in the NT one and do the same. Does it see the file? Sometimes Windows can identify a file and it's type but not be able to open it.

Also please go back and answer questions you have left behind above. If you selectively answer what you want and then get in a who's a liar argument, we're not going to get anywhere. I don't feel it pertains to the problem at all.

I am so sorry, this morning on my way to school, i slipped and fell down (snow, ice outside), now my hands, my fingers are in pain, I can't type much...
There are also lots of people who don't really know where exactly I am from, so please forgive me to count you in as one of their members...

I am a bit confused because the cd-r is in my hands right now, and i am making questions about how to make it work in winXP...But why do you wanted to know if it is closed or not ? I think even when dc-r is not closed, it can still be copied into another one or play perfectly in any computer's players....
