hello to all.
I recently bought a new mobo jetway j-542c and also new power supply and case. The problem I am having is when I go to boot the computer it will boot sometimes then most of the time it won't.I have tried 2 processors 1. cyrix 6x86 p150+gp 120mhz and also a pentium 100mhz processor.
ram 72 pin 32x2 both slots filled with same
2.2 gig hdd
changed video card 2x
changed moniter 3x
disconnected everything except 3.5 floppy, video card and keyboard and tried to boot from bios and 3.5 but it still does the same thing.
when I have everything in except modem and sound card it will boot sometimes then when I go to install windows my mouse curser will not show up so I turn off the computer and then turn it on it will not boot and the cdrom light stays lite and I will not get a beep from the comp speaker.

appreciate some help if possible,
todd

Windows may be getting confused when trying to recognize the hardware components on the new MB(controllers, etc.). If that's the problem, then the best way to solve it is to reinstall Windows. And when you do that, do not have any cards except the video card installed. You can install the rest after Windows is up and running.

thanks ski,
but the problem I am having is I can't load anything into it because the system will boot sometimes and then sometimes it won't, so there is no way to load windows into it.

thanks,
todd

Check that the "clear CMOS" jumper is in the Run/Normal position (if this board has one) or the CMOS battery is firmly seated (or for a pice of plastic under it).

Check that all the cables are properly connected (the strip corresponds to pin 1 on the drive cables), the the RAM is firmly seated and the locking pins are locked.

I have tried all that (mjc) has suggested and it still won't boot all of the time.

Is it possible the motherboard is shot even though it is brand new?

thanks

Yes it is possible...but I would be more inclined to try a different power supply first. Just because it is new doesn't mean it is in perfect working condition.....
