Spybot S&D DSO Exploit fix

This is supposed to fix the false positive for DSO exploit with 1.3 Spybot. It has been available since 10/25/2004 as a separate download. You must have 1.3 installed and then run this program after the install.

I'll have to give it a try on one of my Computers.
It's funny, the only one I still have a problem with the DSO exploit is a computer I recently formatted and did a clean install of XP.
After downloading all Windows and Spybot updates, still had to put the DSO exploit on my ignore list.

Yet, on my other Computers, with the exact same version of Spybot and the same updates, I don't have the problem. Go figure.
Maybe it has something to do with me playing around with earlier beta versions on the other Computers where I don't have the problem...Beats me.

I've been to their Forums and they said to just ignore it and it would be fixed with the next release. :confused:

Funny also is that I seem to remember some sort of update from 10/25/2004 that was automatically downloaded through the program and designed to fix the problem. It worked, but I think that was a beta at the time....can't remember now.

Man! Nothing like a lot of talk about nothing! Anyway, I'll give it a shot on that machine.

The beta update DID fix the problem on all of mine, but the recent flurry of posts about the error shows not all our members have done that particular update, so I posted the fix.
I found the explanation on the download site particularly informative as to why the problem shows up again and again.

I run S&D 1.3.1 (not 1.3) and have not had the DSO issue since installing that version. Is this what you are calling a beta?

Yes. Spybot-S&D 1.3 (final 12May2004) is the only official (authorized – supported) version available from Spybot's WEB site (safer-networking.org).

The above is a direct quote from the Net-Integration Forums in a thread I was involved in on November 30th.

In actually played with other versions: SpybotSD 1.3.1ß, and 1.3.1tx, but they were pulled for some time due to various problems. (Not everyone had problems).

I went back to v1.3 until the next OFFICIAL release.
As mentioned above though, I suspect remnants of the "betas" I used are why I don't have the DSO exploit problem except on the Computer I recently formatted.

Even now there is a "sticky" there explaining the problem, there have been so many inquiries about it.

cheers for the info, this has been bugging me for a while.
saying that, 1.4 is out so hopefully it will be fixed
