First of all here is my set up: Cox broadband Internet connection <--> Toshiba cable modem <--> SMC Barricade 7004ABR router. Four computers off the router, two running WIN98 and two running WinME.
Everything was fine until Cox in my area changed their servers. The two computers running Win98 came right up. I had to change one setting in Control Panel | Network | Properties - I believe it was "Disable WINS..."
I configured the router, as instructed to handle DCHP. The two computers running WinME would not connect. I can do release/renew with winipcfg, but I cannot ping 192.168.2.1
Since I had installed WinME over Win98 on my laptop, I decided to uninstall WinME. The Internet came right up after the laptop rebooted under Win98!!
On the other computer running WinME - I have checked all the settings in Control Panel | Network | Properties. I have gone into System | Hardware and removed my NIC card. I still cannot ping the router. I cannot
uninstall" ME on this computer because it came installed. I guess The I could wipe ME and install Win98, but I would rather not resort to that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Brian
