Hi;
I just made a pc wit the above cpu retail box.
The cpu cooling fan which came in the box stamped by amd does make annoying hum.
After couple of hours of studying this keep ringing in my head.
ADVISE me a good cooler with no sound at all for amd cpu's
Thanks
Pal

Do you know what your dBa is now? usually there going to run around 38dBa
try the above or go to thermaltake or http://www.theoverclockerzstore.com/subcatmfgprod.asp?0=211&1=214&2=-1

(undoubtedly a Biblical reference to a Microsoft product!)
If you can increase the amount of air flow into/out of the case
Then you should be able to put a quieter (slower) fan onto the Heatsink.
Also look at investing in a better than stock HSF combo.
I have the Thermaltake Volcano 6 cooling My 1800 chips.
My fans are 4800 rpm and reduce the noise level a lot. (46-48 is my normal cpu temps under full load)
Note also that I have 3 exhaust fans in this unit to help keep cool air in the case for the HSF
The only way to completely do away with HSF Noise is to Go with water cooled.
And Even then you will still have fans for the case and Cooling radiator
There are lot of Copper only HF units hitting the market . Better But cost more.

Hi Yoda74 & Rick;
thanks for your advise.
I have already tried an Volcano 5.But as you said all depends upon the speed of the fan.I checked the amd link & I'l see if I can get a Global Win TAK58 which seems to have very low rpm's.Pc's cpu is at 21/C but it's the whining noise which is bothersome.
Thanks
Pal
If you are only getting 21C for a temp and the fan that is mounted now is too loud.
It sounds like you already have the needed air flow.
Instead of replacing the HSF combo Why not replace the fan with something a little slower.
I wish I could get my system down to 21C
I think my room is warmer than that

Rick... Check this trick out.
http://superfan.freewebspace.com/
Something I learned thru trial and error while trying to
ease the noise level with the infamous Delta Black Label
7K fans. And that's to shim all four corners of the fan
up off of the heatsink just a tad. Huge drop in fan noise.
Cuts down on the whine.
Luck.

Hi Rick & Ranchdog;
thanks for your advise.My best bet would be a lower speed cpu fan.
I am not a good mechanic for changes as shown in the link.
I am perplexed to go on amd link & them recommending the coolers with such high dba.A company with such technology can't provide silent coolers with their retail box cpu's ??
Thanks guys,
Pal

I think I would go with the rubber washers and same size fan . http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/xNuPG-XGM8HFYIAAQLU65A/profile/516/1/component.htm http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/xNuPG-XGM8HFYIAAQLU65A/browse/component/26.htm
Just get a slower one. 45/4800
The idea of a patch work fan sitting directly above a Very $$ video card scares me..
Like those single pin connectors on some of the HSF units.
I’ll take all 3 lugs

yeah buddy.
TaiSol HSF's with the 3 lug hold-down are better'n
canned peaches. Their fans are smooth runners.
The pitch of the blade causes the whine. Air flow
is one thing but something that sounds like you just
kicked a turbine in reverse to slow down the air-speed
isn't cool. As in aircraft.
Small in diameter, the pitch has to be more radical, and
the RPM has to be cranked up to move a lot of CFM.
But to the recommendation of a HSF that makes no noise
I'm at a loss.
If I could build one I'd get wealthy.
Luck.

HI Rick & Ranchdog;
The KDC link is good for the pc case fans.I don't think this will work/fit on the amd - xp cpu's.
Did you guys check the specks on Global Win TAK 58 ? Is it worth putting that much weight on cpu?
Well beleive me everyone is not a gamer -- there are many friends of mine which will see a quieter pc a plus for their work.
Now I am getting a bit reluctant to spend another $30-50/- just to get another humming bird in my pc.
Sure ranchdog a company wth real quiet coolers will definitely make it.
thanks guys,
Pal
