hey guys i am new here and i am sorry if this question has been asked before.

i am putting my old motherboard into a new case. the case i got is really cheap and the holes to mount the motherboard are raised. if i put stand-offs in the case then the motherboard sits to far away from the side of the case, making it impossible to screw in any pci or agp cards.

how dangerous is it to screw the motherboard directly to the case? is it possible to short circuit the motherboard?

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!!! :D

Ok, that sounds a little odd. First of all, is this case new? And/or is the mobo really old? Gonna need more info to figure out why they won't fit together. As for screwing the mobo directly into the case, that's a big no-no! Yes, it will most definitely short out if you do that, and you'll probably lose more than just your mobo!

Let's get this all figured out before you turn the system on and fry everything! ;)

You can read about Form Factors at http://www.pcguide.com/ref/case/form.htm

It is likely that one or both are AT or ATX.
