Search and Destroy Folder

This morning I noticed that I have dozens of zip files. The path is: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SpyBot-Search and Destroy\Recover. Most of the file names start with "CoolWWWSearch" then there is a number after the name. And the file extension is ZIP. Others are named "DSOExploit" I do use Search and Destroy to search for Spy Ware, so I'm assuming the files have something to do with that. Does anyone know why the files are there and can they be deleted? There must be 100 or more of them. My OS is WinXP Home. Thanks...

While I do not know for sure, I beleive these are backup files created by Spybot to be restored if needed. While you could probably delete them, I would look inside the program to see if sypbot has a way to remove them before you delete them manually.

Hey Frank, I was just wondering, how long has it been since you had one of the guys look at a fresh HJT log from your computer? If the better part of over 100 files in your Spybot restore folders are CWS, there is a good chance you have a CWS problem. May be worth posting a log just to make sure. Just a thought. :)

At one time I thought I had the utility to run the HJT log, but I don't have it anymore. Can you send me a link where I can get it? Thanks.

Here (http://www.subratam.org/?page=removal) it is. You might want to get CWShredder while your there. But don't use it until one of the experts say to.

It is also possible that all of those zip files are the definitions that Spybot uses to find the malware... I would definitely not just delete them, but you can clear quarantined files in Spybot and the will go if that is what they are... If they are definitions, they would not indicate a problem with your computer....

As pointed out already, they are the backup files created by Spybot S&D while cleaning. If you are not planning to restore them you can safely remove them using the program itself.

Spybot S&D > Recovery > Select all > Purge selected items.

Since CWS was found by Spybot S&D, it will be a good idea to get your HijackThis log file checked by an expert.

I don't see anything looking like a red flag jumping out of your log from here, but wait for one of the experts to confirm.

This is considered malware, so I suggest using HJT to fix it:

I did find the file and deleted it. I then did what else was suggested and look at the files through SpyBot S&D. The zip files were indeed backup files that SpyBod made in case one wants to put back what was deleted. I opened up SpyBot and clicked on "Recovery". It showed the files as backup files. I removed them through SpyBot. Thanks again to everyone.
