I have recently installed a new printer LexMarx x2250. I have a dual boot of Os 98 and Os 2000. The printer works perfectly on Os 98, but when ever it begins to print on Os 2000, there is an automatic shut down and restart.

I don't know what this means....can anyone help?

I don't know much about the subject but would there be any updates for either the printer or 2k that might solve the problem? Maybe if you played around with your printer settings in the control panel.
You could always return it and try a different printer if you cannot find a solution.

I run W2K and I have a Lexmark X6170.

I've never had this type of problem, but my system is not a dual boot. I wouldn't "think" that would be the problem but who knows? Uninstall the printer software and then reinstall it. My Lexmark came with a software package that installs several appletts and processes that load automatically when the computer boots. One of these could have been corrupted or maybe even conflict with something in W2K. Before you use the printer again, go to the Lexmark site and look for any available patches and/or updates to the drivers. There WERE patches for my Lexmark. Obviously, download and install the updates/patches.

Next (maybe this has nothing to do with printer functions, maybe it will), is W2K up-to-date? I'm at Service Pack 4 with EVERY update and patch available from Microsoft.

Finally, it's possible that something else running on the PC at the same time is in or causing the conflict. Try making sure all other applications and unnecessary processes are closed/shutdown before using the printer.

Then ... having done all this ... try printing. If it works without crashing W2K, bring up your system to normal one application/process at a time and print to determine which might be the other offending process, if any.

It has nothing to do with a dual boot system and is most likely because the printer was intalled incorrectly or with the wrong drivers. Check device manager to see if there are any yellow ! or ? marks.

Uninstalling or reinstalling might help as might getting the latest specific Win2K drivers and then updating the drivers for the printer.

Is that model USB or Parallel Port or ...?
