you're gonna LOVE this one!

was just posting earlier (or last night) on how this pc had been plugged in and working perfectly since day one July 2000.

then guess what??

well........... never think you are above a simple mistake (stupid stupid stupid one too)

this morning I had just gotten a nice cup of coffee and it was sitting on my desk, (my keyboard resides under the desktop and slides out, and my mouse lives on top of the desk.)

not hard to figure where this ones going huh??

drowned my keyboard and mouse both.

immediately turned off computer (held power switch in until it went off)

replaced the keyboard and mouse ( original keyboard was USB) new one is ps2.

booted up to winXP pro, and it seemed ok (for about a minute), then mouse and keyboard both stopped responding.

booted up into win98se and it seems to be working ok.

does this sound like a reinstall of winXP or do you all have some thoughts??

I think I would try the safemode remove and reinstall mouse and keyboard drivers
Also if your bios supports it Turn off USB Keyboard and enable / force PS/2

If you have to reinstall for something this simple it’s time to install 2K.
But on the bright side.
At least you weren’t using the cd-rom tray as a cup holder http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Does this have anything to do with HOW LONG before you have to REBOOT.

YODA- no, I think it has to do with the coffee flood.

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

okm here it is so far- still back in win98 here- booted to safe mode in winxp and the same thing happened, no mouse or keyboard response after a minute.

rebooted to "last known..." seemed ok and I was excited (until I pressed the up arrow on my keyboard and then everything stopped again.

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

there is some type of repair console but how do you use it without a mouse or keyboard- it is running perfectly- I just can't do anything.

guess what??

since my initial {{drowned}} keyboard was a USB, and I had not enabled ps2 in winXP because there had been no need to.

I enabled it and all is well!

it was just bothering me why it all would work in win98 and not in XP!

and everytime I would reboot, I was ok until I tried to use the keyboard (you know all the usual shortcuts we use) and when I did- both mouse and keyboard both stopped working.

took me a bit to figure out though.

I hope this isn’t an example of what to expect from XP’s hardware PNP

Since you changed some hardware on your computer Microsoft requires you to call them for a new activation code. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I realize this comes a little late but I just found this forum a few minutes ago and couldn't resist.

sea69, It was a joke. Didn't you see that smiley face thing after the comment? And the "couldn't resist" indicated humor, or so I thought.
