Hello gang, looking for some ideas here.
I will give as many details as I can, but I no longer have the machine in hand.
Custom built (not me)
Abit CUV-266 mobo (VIA chipset)
PIII 800 (ID marks-800/256/133)
Windows ME
128Mgb PC2100 DDR
DVD drive
CD-RW
IDE hdd

This machine reportedly worked fine for the first couple months, then on first boot of the day, would report invalid CPU settings. They would follow thru with the prompts, or just restart and things would be fine for that day.
About 8 months later, the PSU melted http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif (the reason I had it).
Replaced the 250W with a 300W. Started up, promted for invalid CPU settings, went thru BIOS, set it to 800, and proceeded with boot. Everthing works fine except it still reports a 600. Went into BIOS (board is set for JumperFree mode) and can adjust all settings except Multiplier (set at 6), but when I reboot, I get promted with "Invalid CPU settings" and it goes back to 600.

What I have tried:
Setting CPU frequency to 800Mhz
Setting Bus speed to 133
Letting it run at 600
What may need to be tried:
New CMOS battery
Update BIOS

Any more ideas???
Thanks

Might also want to check memory settings...could be wrong settings, or even bad ram causing the system not to run at 133fsb...

You tried to reset the cmos jumper?

For some reason this board insists on running at
100 FSB. The multiplier is locked at x6 by Intel
so in JumperFree mode it will remain there in BIOS.

So a person is getting a 6 X 100 situation.

What I would do is take it out of JumperFree and set
the parameters.

Unless the PC is losing time, CMOS Checksum error, etc.
I doubt if a new battery will suffice.

Yes a BIOS upgrade would be beneficial. On the PSU, my
take on that is this was an unrelated incident. But you
have to hope another component wasn't damaged during the
meltdown.

Good Luck.

Thanks to all,
They called today to tell me everything is working fine, and that running at 600 should not be a problem. They are just accepting the idea that it is now a 600 and not willing to mess with it any further.
It is 60 miles away, so if they have the opportunity to get up here again, I will try your suggestions. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
