I was doing a scan with Ad-Aware this morning when all of a sudden a small window opened up with a message that told me that Norton Anti-Virus found and deleted a virus named, "Hacktool.com". I don't understand why Norton found it in spite of the fact that I was not doing a virus scan. I was scanning with Ad-Aware. Right before I ran the scan with Ad-Aware, I downloaded Microsoft's Anti-Spyware program. So it seems that I got the virus from MS. Does that make sense? Also, does Norton find a virus even though you are not running a scan with it? Thanks.

Hi Frank,

I had the same thing happen to me after i setup Adaware to do a custom scan, Nortons anti-virus window popped up saying it had found and deleted a virus, all it had deleted was a 2k App i downloaded, scanned with Nortons, used the App to check my ports and then moved it to my backup drive.

Funny thing is that its been on my backup drive for a long time and Nortons always scanned that drive as ok.

Most AV programs are watching all the time and this program was probably activated by the Ad-Aware scan in a way that triggered the response from Norton... I am guessing it was a false positive, probably reacting to the definition files in Ad-Aware....
