Not much background to go on here, if you've already posted a topic concerning this problem, find it and post a reply to that topic so we will have all the details.
From what I can see so far, try scanreg. Use the [F8] key or hold down [CTRL] during boot, when you get the boot menu choose Command Prompt Only and type scanreg_/restore using a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here. Pick a registry backup made before this problem started.

Ok, I cannot find scanreg, command not found......
More info though, when I run 'FDISK /STATUS' i get
DISK 1 (ramdrive I think) 4118 mb 100%
C 4118 MB
I only have 1 4Gig Hard drive, so there appears to be
some confusion here.......any ideas ? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

What I meant by more info is we need to know what happened to cause this, some basic system info, etc. If Windows was already installed and running, or is not installed, that would make a great difference. If you installed a program or game and this started to happen, that would give us a clue....
Try this and see what you get.
Boot to a Start Up disk, once you get an A:\> prompt type C:and press [Enter] That should switch to C drive. Then type dir and press [Enter]. That should give you a list of all files stored on the drive. We don't need to know all files found, but if you do show a windows directory, let us know, and if it says File not found let us know.
WINDOWS with no extension should show if it is a directory. COMMAND.COM should be there if the drive is bootable. .COM is the extension.
