Configure your bios to check behind the couch. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
Check and make sure your master/slave jumpers are correct. These should be on the back of the drive itself. If the cdrom is on the same ide cable as the hard drive, you should set it to "slave". If it has its own cable, set it to "master".

As a techie going about 15 years now, I have infamously bad social skills. As such, I'm not sure you're kidding about configuring the bios to check behind the couch. (I was, in fact, kidding.)

As my memory serves (and my kid's say it doesn't). Windows 95 does NOT have native cd-rom support. You will have to have a dos driver for the CD rom and
A line similar to this in your config.sys file:
device=C:\CDROM\oakcdrom.sys /D:CDROM
and line similar to this in you autoexec.bat file:
C:\CDROM\MSCDEX /D:CDROM /L:M
Where the /D: switch is the name of the device and it's not important what you call it as long as it's the same on both lines and /L: is the drive letter you want to give your CD-ROM

Hello Hawkeye28,
I too have fought to make a Cd work in dos. Back in the old days it was a pretty common problem.
The way I understand it, you have just installed this cd-rom so you can reload windows, and the machine never had one before now correct?
Is this a new CD-rom?
What brand is it, does it have a name or part number on it?
How is it hooked up? Does it share the cable with the hard drive, is it on a cable by itself, or is it connected to a sound card?
Any more details about the system would help.
Tell me as much as you can, and I'll try to get you up and running.
Good Luck
CJ
P.S: ClassicSoftware has got the right idea, we need to set up your cd drivers. What boot disk are you using? Does it have the option to boot with cd support, and its not finding the drive? Let us know!
