i'm running xp home and i check the windows update site at least weekly; today 2 critical updates were available for download. the critical updates were dated 2-09-02 and 2-10-02 - my comment is how critical can these updates be if they only become available almost three weeks later...

Don't run XP so not really sure my advice would be is to read up on what the critical updates entail,Are they for security? are they driver up dates? there should be a FAQ there somewhere telling you what they are for.Critical updates are just for what they are intended to be critical they may not have updated the site at the time they were made? or someone could have typed the date wrong (of course a human error that couldn't happen)?

i went back to check on exactly what the updates were, but the site only reports:
- Successful Critical Update, February 9, 2002 Web site
- Successful Critical Update, February 10, 2002 Web site
it just seems strange to me that it takes so long to have these updates hit windows update...

I don't know exactly how that works either...to add an even stranger detail...you can run windows update on two computers and get different critical updates. Then run it again a day later and get the ones that were missed...
My SWAG is that the servers may determine demand for a particular update at the time the request is made and skip ones that are being dl'ed a lot. But that seems unlikely, probably just a M$ "feature"

Hmm if it says successful critical update then you have D/L it already? then there should be a history button at the site that gives you what you have D/L from there Click on it,it should still explain what it was that was D/L and give you your history of all D/L's.

I'm with hired on this...it seems to me that there is no rhyme or reason to it...

Yeah thats a trip there sometimes ..the way ive always looked at "critical" updates was " Someone found a hole where? ..Gee we better patch that up"..lol.. also ever installed a OS and head over to the update site and when ya click on Product Updates and wait for the window to pop up and search for available updates u always get a page not found error? ive had a 98SE and 2000 Pro do that and both was during the 1st attempt after install. While still on the error page you will see a "TRY AGAIN" link although this would never work if ya hover your mouse over that link and look at the bottom of ya browser at the address its pointing to and manually type that in the address bar it will load the update tools. after that it always did it thing.
