Hi all..im putting together another computer and the motherboard is from a Gateway desktop and is working fine but has a 700MHZ Celeron @66 Bus..i would really like to stuff a cool fan on that sucker and boost it up to 100 bus along with the Pc133 of course. Heres the deal, no dip switches at all on the board ..just has one jumper which clears the CMOS ..in the bios there is just basic settings like bootup options and hardrive selection..theres no advanced settings anywhere. The name is MS-6312 VER 1 ive searched everywhere and cannot find a non Gateway bios update anywhere and any info on setting the bus speed higher.Hardly any info at all to be honest.. The details at Gateways site says the board can go at that speed but nothing in the way of explaining how. At Micro Star's site the board isnt even listed, so im guessing its a special make for Gateway or something.,,think it may be setup not be be manually set? or anyone know a better place for a bios update?. thanks.

Yep...give up on the oc of this OEM board, it just isn't going to happen. Boards of this type are crippled in features (both BIOS and hardware) that would support the changes you desire. Often the retail BIOS version will cause the board not to work because it is looking for something that does not exist and either generates an unrecoverable series of errors or it just gets stuck looking for it.

The following is intended purely for educational purposes, I strongly advise against attempting any of this, but I know what it's like to have Gateway and practically no way of getting info about it. Attempting anything outlined below voids your warranty and may destroy your computer and the universe as we know it...
Some of the following is speculation as you have not provided enough info for me to give you facts, but:
That board probably supports P3 and Celeron, as such it probably supports 66, 100, and 133 fsb speeds...for the 700mhz Celeron, with a 66mhz fsb, you're looking at a multiplier of 10.5 (which is locked)...so if you change the fsb to 100mhz, you'll be attempting 1050Mhz or, in other words, a 350mhz overclock. That is ambitious to say the least.
(In case anyone is wondering, changing the fsb on this board will not overclock the PCI or AGP bus, as the board natively supports 66/100/133 and the respective dividers and will adjust them accordingly)
The Celeron you have and the P3 at 1Ghz are based on the same core: coppermine, which peaked out at around 1000mhz. The Voltage for the coppermine at 900Mhz and higher is 1.7V. (coppermine P3s at 900mhz+ were kind of just like overclocked 866mhz P3s. Intel upped the core voltage to get some more speed out of the chip)
To set the chip speed on Gateway systems there is a special system setup jumper which allows you to select the FSB and Multiplier of the chip you have installed (of course it only allows for settings supported by that board's BIOS revision and the multiplier is going to be whatever is set on the chip) Once the speed is set, you shut down the system put the jumper back to its original position and reboot. The board then determines what Voltage to supply the cpu based on the setting you made. So to get the correct voltage to the chip, you'll have to choose 9*100/9.5*100/10*100.
The problems you may face are that your board doesn't have the settings for chips that fast or that it has a safety feature that will read the multiplier on the chip and won't allow the 1.7V setting (the correct voltage for your chip is 1.5V, which is far too low to get it to 1050mhz)
If it allows the setting and supplies 1.7V to the chip, the only thing left standing in your way will be the quality of your cpu. And I hate to say it, but it is extremely unlikely that you will get a 700mhz coppermine Celeron to run at 1050Mhz. As I mentioned, this is pretty much the limit of that core and was only reached at the very end of the P3 life.
On the other hand, it may not burn out your chip at 1.7V since that core can handle it with adequate cooling...although there's a chance in everything...
So waht I'm suggesting is: don't bother, it won't work...

Thanks for the input.. found a site that says it can be overclocked to 92 Bus at 966MHZ but could be unstable, but at a 83 Bus at 875MHZ should be fine with a quality fan. The jumper that you mentioned lost me on this board because it just one and reads:
1-2 = NORMAL
2-3 = CLEAR CMOS
OFF = FlASH BIOS
This was orginally a 566 Celeron board and i had a 700 laying around ..hell id be happy to get another 175MHZ at 83 Bus if i could get this board set up..id really like to use it because it has onboard everything..including the modem ..some would rather use there favorite G Force ..so on but its all ill ever need being i dont mess with games and huge intense programs ..just want all i can get out of it. No warrentee worries here its used board i bought. 20 bucks for the board plus another 50 for a tower from Tiger Direct is preety much all i have invested and the more the reason i like where everything is onboard ( no cards to buy) would really like to get it at least one setting higher if possable..i wont invest another 100 bucks for a board just to squezze another 175 ..also the chipset is Intel 810 for what its worth..but that one jumper is all thats on there..im guessing thats not the one and its staying at 700 ?

It may be an i810e (if you are lucky) which would support 100MHz and should support a PIII, if it is a plain old 1810, then jumpers, no go..... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif. At least it supports the voltage for the 700MHz Celeron, which is a good sign...but still not sure how you would get acces to the needed settings, the key word here is proprietary.

Try moving that jumper to the 2-3 position and booting the system. It may give you the CPU select option...
Since it's a Gateway, I doubt it will give you fsb speed options of 83 and 92, but you never know. And if it gives you 83 and 92, it probably has 75 also...

Had a "been there, done that" on your comment about not being able to find that mobo at MSI. Had same results on MSI board off Search at MSI last week, so went to Google and put in mobo model number, and first link was MSI page on the board. So tried that on your board. Unfortunately, Google didn't have an MSI page, but found some specs on board.
This place has it on clearance, and says this "MSI 6312 tiny Flex ATX, Celeron or PIII up to 1 gig, 66, 100, 133 FSB, Gateway OEM "Brookings" motherboard, see gateway.com/support/techd...8101.shtml , Intel 810E, onboard video, sound, video, and modem, 2 PCI, 0 USB, 2 sdram, ATA66, must use USB mouse and KB, has 3 rear USB plugs one of which is bad, tested OK with a Cel633, bios has been updated, as is, only 9"w x 7.5"d, $21
.
NOTE:Some of the boards may need a bios upgrade to support the latest processors"
Gateway's support page (http://gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/0aavi/2511081/251108101.shtml), although I am a bit confused on the Brooking stuff.
Went over and looked, and there is no BIOS update listed at motherboard.org, but I looked under MSI, so not sure. Good luck.
