Welchia worm

Has anybody heard of W32.Welchia.Worm. One of my computer started attacking one of my other one with Welchia_ICMP_Scan. After I looked at that I went over to that computer and norton was going crazy. Every 15 sec it would come up and say it block an instrusion from IP yada.yada.yayda. But the IP it was giving was from that computer. Then my internet stopped working on both computers. So I ran Norton Antivirus, Adaware, and Spybot. They all found nothing. So I turn the computers off, unplugged the modem and router and let them reset themselves. After I did this I still could not access the internet.

So I unplugged the modem from the router and hooked it straight into the computer. I got nothing the computer did not even see it there. So I plug my modem in with the USB. After it installed it said it could not find the host. So I tried to reconfig my IP and got nothing. Then I just plugged everything back up the it was and was about to call my cable company when it all started working again. The strange thing is the whole time except when unplugged the modem showed activity.

So after I got my internet working I downloaded a program from symantec to remove this worm. I ran it on both computers and it said that the worm was not on my computer.

Does anybody have any idea what in the world happened to my computers if this worm is not on there. Thanks.

How is your Windows security/critical updates position?

1. Go to Windows Update and apply all security/critical updates. Make sure that you get MS03-007,MS03-026 and MS03-39.

2. Perform an online virus scan...Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp)...eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner (http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx)

3. It is likely that the worm brought other malware with it. To confirm that you are clean, let us have a look at your running processes and certain key locations of the registry.

Download 'Hijack This!' (http://www.subratam.org/?page=removal)
Unzip to a convenient folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Nope they just stopped out of the blue. I did turn off my system restore and then clean it out. So I think I am good to go for now. Thanks.
