View Full Version : Windows XP "Saved" the PC Industry?

Before Windows XP came out, I thought that I read or heard from computer industry pundits that they were hoping XP would inject some "life" into the PC market. There sure seemed to be a lot of hype from Micosoft's camp (Billy Gates), how XP was a revolutionary thing for "mankind" (that's my exaggeration).

Anyway, XP has been out for a couple of months and I do not sense any kind of massive resurgence/comeback of the PC market.....I still hear news that it is still slow. Possibly not even XP can overcome the general economic slowdown/levelling off?

It's just not a revolutionary product such as Win 95 was in its time. Heck if you listened to Microsoft Win Me was going to storm the market. I suppose MS will tell us every product they release from now on will be huge. While Xp is more stable than 98 and more consumer friendly than 2000 it's not revolutionary.

I can't get XP Pro to crash!

I currently have 10 IE windows open (two are downlaoding things), OE6, zomealarm pro, quicktime movie playing, outside security camera on, playing a file in win media palyer, sisoftsandra becnchmark (byrn in), (5) win explorer windows open, two M$ games running in the background, movie editor, xp-plus mp3 converter, and anything else I can find to open up... so far still doing whatever I want all at once.

'nuff said.

Sea, let my kids at it for a day or two............ http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ain't marketting hype great?

I think that everything is going to change the world...now if it was half as good as the hype says it is then it might have something going for it. But I know that I'm not going to it soon.....no real desire to give myself headaches/ulcers trying to get it to work on this machine... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Not going to step on Sea's enthusasim here; but not only have i crashed XP, i've seen it happen at a public expo!

It seems to be more stable than even W2K, but it will still give up the ghost if you push it too hard. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sorry Sea , it was at a local convention on their rollout for XP ( on 10/25 ).

They wouldn't let private individuals film there; imagine that.?! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Sorry, sea...not this HP (your Compaq is actually more update than my main machine...) and its restircted BIOS....it needs permission from HP in order to take a dump.....I will have XP fun soon enough, my sister's machine...new build, probably XP, clean install (and I'll play with it before I let her have the machine, burn in test and all that.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

I have crashed XP. Two lockups three mini dumps in one day all trying to install Microsoft Works Suite 2002. Give me an operating system I will crash it! It is all fixed now but there for awhile I was crashing it daily. I haven't seen a BSOD yet think they replaced them with the mini dump. It just reboots and runs scandisk

I think Windows XP and Microsoft use more of my bandwidth than I do!

hmmmmm it seems to have accepted everthing I wanted to add thus far.

I installed Word 2000, and a bunch of my old apps from my C Drive (win98se) which I can access as easily as anything on my Ddrive(XP) drive.

I like that.

Thinking of installing Norton System Works 2002, anyone try that yet??

mjc "test burn"..
