Charles E. Ardai, president and chief executive officer of the nation's third-largest ISP, said Thursday that he wants Juno (Nasdaq: JWEB) to become the leader in online virtual supercomputing and expects to begin testing the Juno Virtual Supercomputer Project in coming months.
The venture will require participating Juno customers to keep their computers on at all times so Juno, of New York, can sell unused time and space on its customers' hard drives to third parties such as scientific researchers who want to solve large computational problems. The practice of using many computers at once to answer such bioinfomatic questions at a faster rate is called distributed computing.

Seti does the same thing to look for extraterresitial life. Whats the problem?
Seti is voluntary; Juno is not!
If you equate limited access (not all areas have a local dial in number), slow connections (most of the free Juno connectiosn are over-worked therefore not as fast as they should be), limited hours (check the user agreement closely--there is a limited number of hours per month for being connected to the web), high lag (most of the Juno local numbers just forward the call to the location of the servers) and several other things that I could add to this list as good becauase it is "free" then I think you should rexamine you choosen method of declaring yourself to the world.......

That's interesting mjc, the only problem is your spelling is so bad it's difficult to understand exactly what you are saying. I will just assume that you don't know what your talking about.

yes, we do.
We all are here to help each other out, this is like a small (worldwide) communtity and we have occasional disagreements but we do NOT tolerate flamers who have nothing better to do with their time.
I would advise you to check your attitude prior to posting here.
I have checked all your posts, and the only thing you seem to have on your mind is the MISinformed notion that juno is anything other than spyware, crap.
ANYone that knows ANYTHING about networking, isp's or computers knows this.
if you like juno- fine, we don't care and are glad that you're happy, however please do not insult us with your lack of knowlege...

That's not possible, I know more than anyone when it comes to computers. Who dares question my prowess? People call me the busdriver cause I take people to school. KidGenius? A kid maybe, a genius that is doubtful. What was your last score in the MENSA exam?
Please do not deride anyone for the lack of spelling skills. Some of the biggest geniuses in the world, as well as some of the most successful businessmen\woman have had the inabilltiy to spell correctly.
If you are a genius you are a perfect example of this. I give the following as examples
"People call me the busdriver CAUSE" I can only assume because of your termonollligy you actually mean BECAUSE and not CAUSE. Both these words have different meanings.
Also please check out your own spelling in your second last post - second bottom line - fifth word along.
The following should actually be "deep SEATED issues" and not "deep seeded issues"

OK Enough.
Kid Genius: You're ruffling the wrong feathers. If you have nothing better to do than instigate, Yahoo Chat (http://www.yahoo.com/r/yc) might tolerate it, I will not.
If you will bother to read the Rules, Policies and Disclaimers (http://www.pcguide.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=agree) that you agreed to when you registered your user name, which you obviously have not done, you will find that it specifically states:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.
You are harrassing the participants of the forums and I will not tolerate it. If anyone deserves being berated regarding their conduct, information, delivery or spelling I will be the one who does it, not you.
I happen to know the difference between genius and troublemaker and I'm afraid you fall into the latter category. I also happen to know more about mjc than you ever will, including the fact that his IQ is closer to genius than yours will ever be. Mine is too. (Both around 140-150, average is 100) We're both pretty sure Ghost_Hacker is about that level of intelligence as well, and a few others who have joined us are not far at all from it. mjc knows how to spell, but we all post a typo now and then. I spell check each of my posts myself, without the assistance of any program, and still miss a mistake occasionally. So does mjc, several of the others who participate on the forums do the same.
Juno is garbage, I've used it. Non-stop pop-up ads varying from every 5 seconds to 2 minutes, slow connection times, limited access time, tech support either doesn't answer email or does not exist, nor does the president of the company, (I emailed both several times with no response at all), more busy signals than I get now, and I had to dial in 6 times tonight, and now Juno users have no choice but to leave their computers running so Juno can use them for their own purposes. The users pay for the electricity, not Juno, and the users pay any related repair bills, not Juno. Check their Terms of Use (http://help.juno.com/privacy/agreement.html) policy, it is part of it. It also states that they mey discontinue any user's account for any or no reason without notice.
Who dares question my prowess?
ME
I've just read all of your posts a search will turn up and didn't find anything resembling intelligence, much less genius. Try to install one version of windows over another and keep original settings by repartitioning??? Wake up call!! Repartitioning REMOVES the settings he wanted to keep. Booting to a CD also involves a lot more than simply setting the boot sequence in BIOS.
Until then you take what I say about PCs to the bank. Because I Am KidGenius
No thanks, so far what you have said about computers is very little, and from what I have seen, all useless. And your spelling stinks.
You get one warning, same as everyone else. The PC Guide Discussion Forums is not the place to insult people, post blatant misinformation or bring your ego out for a stroll. If you wish to help us resolve computer problems, anyone can join and assist us if they wish. If you wish to try and you make mistakes, that's fine too, plenty people do and learn from their mistakes.
If, however, you only want to fling insults at highly respected members of the forums, post blatantly inaccurate information while claiming to know "more than anyone when it comes to computers", you need to find another place to play. No more will be tolerated here, these forums are populated and frequented by intelligent people, not wanna bes.
Do not post any more insulting or derogatory comments toward any participant on this forum. Do not claim you are a computer genius, you are definitely not. I will not hesitate to make sure it is your last post.
If you wish to recommend Juno's useless software you have that right, but the participants here who do know what they are doing will make sure the true nature of Juno's so-called "service" is known to all.

Sounds good Pete. You're the boss. I only have one more question, if I may? It seems, to me, that whenever there is a tif within the forums the other users Sea, BigBlue, to name a couple. Are allowed to make any remarks they wish and you only correct the new users. If you take a look at some of their remarks you will see that they are not all nice. In the Strange town Forums the comment was made that I was the dumbest fast food manger in the world. I'll say this, I didn't make $18,000 last year by being stupid. One day I will have my very own Mickey D's then we'll see who's laughing. Thank you for your time

BigBlue, I apologize, it was bassman that made the comment in strange town names forum. However, you do try to reprimand users when it is not your place to do so. My point is that the remarks and insults are not one sided and PP does not address all parties when he "drops the hammer" the new user is usually hammered. That's fine as this is a free service but if legal and user aggrements are to be noted then all parties should be made aware of thier participation in the "wrong doing", whatever, dosent matter.

look.. Pete has said ENOUGH!
I personally am getting more than a little sick of hearing this whining ass crap, grow up and help some of the people here that are requesting it and let this baby ego BS go.
This is NOT (last time I checked) listed ANYwhere as a DRAMA_HelP.
I have YET, I REPEAT- YET to see ONE DECENT PIECE OF ADVISE come from you.
No, I am NOT the moderator here, I am a participant, and as so I am trying (BELIEVE THAT) in the most possible nicest way to ask you to stop the BS and get on with why this site is here.
we don't care if you like the way we take up for each other, and you're really beggining to piss me off.
sorry Pete.
If I need to be reprimanded for this reply- so be it, but that's how me and NOT a few others feel.

Well KidGenius, you have finaly made several remarks that can not be considered arogant and unhelpful. I apologize for the derogatory remark about your intellegence. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
As for Pete not hammering me or any of the others, don't worry. We get our reprimands as well. When someone new comes in and starts the kind of fires you have, he usualy lets us blow a little steam and defend ourselves for a bit. If it gets to far out of hand, he lets us know.
If you would like to stick around and help people, I know we can turn the other cheek, but you will be watched carefully because of your earlier actions. Don't you think thats fair? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif
Show your worth here by being productive, and we will back off. Or move along to someplace where your earlier actions are tolerated.

bassman, that is very big of you thanks, although Dumpwater is pretty strange for a town name I admit. Sea, take it easy. Mr. Pete will lock it down I'm sure. Peace
Bassman,
I was about to say the same thing....
Kid,
I, too, agree with:
Show your worth here by being productive
Becuase more than one, now very liked and well respected regular, has gotten off to a rocky start....and yes, attitude is everything around here (or should I say lack of it)....and as you noticed WE do stick up for each other, and if you hang around long enough, without being a thorn is someone's side, you'll be on the other end of it!
Most of the members don't go boasting about their prowess, they just plug away at the problem and get the job done. And you will notice that alot of us ask for system info, or even ask if a certain thing has been tried, because what works on an Intel chipset may not work the same way or at all on a VIA chipset, not to stall...just some basic diagnostic technique (bed-side manner)....how many times have you thought a problem was with the modem when after checking everything out you find that the NIC is wanting to share the same resources as the modem...or the dial up adapter was bound to the NIC instead of the modem?

Sea...I know you have a temper, but please try to watch the language a bit closer...
Kid...As you can see these people do stick up for each other. They have been working together here for a long time, they all have respect for each other and they do not like seeing someone pop in out of the blue and start harrassing the others.
As has already been mentioned, more than one of these individuals has gotten off on the wrong foot, and in most cases after a bit of bickering and what not they have settled down, gotten to know us and found out these people will still accept them as regular participants with no grudges, provided they show us they can treat others with respect and cooperate with us. In virtually all of these cases these people are now regular participants, and well respected ones.
It's the new user that is usually "hammered" because it's usually the new user that caused the disruption, and usually by insulting or harrassing the people who are donating their time to try and help others. I do reprimand them when I feel it is necessary, but with most of the long standing members I usually only have to make a simple comment, and I also have to take the entire situation as a whole into consideration, rather than picking out one person's comments and disregarding the context.
Yes, they do sometimes make some comments that are not exactly nice, but when they do it's usually justified, even if I do sometimes feel it would have been better left unsaid. The only way I can keep the forums from becoming a madhouse is to let everyone have some leeway to let off a bit of steam when something of this nature happens. So occasionally comments are made that may not seem too nice, but I have to realize that it would be much worse if I tried to be too rigid when tempers flare.
And thanks for your apologies and trying to understand the situation from a different point of view.
If you wish to stick around, get to know these people and help when you think you have something constructive to add, I think you'll find we have a great group of people here, exceptionally knowledgeable and always willing to teach, learn and get computers up and running. If you come up with a blatantly wrong answer, they know how to correct you without being obnoxious, as long as you show them you can do the same. If you have the right answer, they will not hesitate to accept it, and in many cases verify it if they feel it might help to confirm your information, again as long as you show them you can do the same.
But now you have to show them...they won't just accept it without careful consideration.
