I'm troubleshooting a "K7S5A Pro" Socket A motherboard. There's no video signal at all. An eight-beep code keeps repeating. I keep reading that 8 beeps with this MoB indicates video card failure. I've unplugged everything except RAM and vid card, same result. Tried both a PCI and an AGP video card. Tried NO vid card. Tried NEW RAM stick. All result in (same thing -- 8 beeps. (I also re-set the CMOS jumpers, and then also left battery out for 10+ mins.)
NOTE -- the only thing that changed the 8-beep pattern was taking out the RAM and leaving it out. This resulted in NO BEEPS. ("no beeps" is supposed to indicate CPU problem -- but isn't that ruled out by the 8 beeps with memory IN place?)
---> So, all this most probably indicates a motherboard problem, right? (One that affects both AGP and PCI video?)
---> Or does the "no beeps with RAM removed" probelmatic as well?
---> OR -- is there something else I overlooked?
NOTE -- the user of this machine was reckless in the way she was testing it, i.e. yanking on cables, leaving cmos jumper in reset mode or unplugging remote power switch and then wondering why no power, etc. But what sort of cable/jumper change could she have done that would cause 8 beeps?
I'm wondering if maybe ESD messed up the mother board? (She was careful about unplugging PC before opening...)
Thanks for any info
