I just built a new system with an Asus P5P800 and P4 3.2. Now, the BIOS are telling me my CPU is running at 200~ degrees F. It even gives me a temperature warning when booting up. I updated the BIOS hoping that would solve something, but to no avail. I also installed XP without any random shutdowns, or burnt plastic smells. Could these just be wrong readings (If so, how would I go about fixing it?) or is my computer really on the verge of melt-down? Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

at 200°F (=93°C) your system should melt down, so I'm guessing it's a faulty reading from your mobo temp-sensors.
If you're sure you installed the cpu correctly, RMA-ing the mobo if possible would be my choice of action. It's no biggie if the temp readings are a few degrees of, but readings like this will keep you in the dark should there ever be a real problem, and we wouldn't want that would we :)

Thanks for replying Abbadon. I'm starting to think it really is just a bad read. I updated the BIOS again since there was a new release and it's still insisting on high temps of 170-200 F. I also just finished plugging in the front panel, and I placed the temperature probe as close to the CPU as I could (Few inches away). I'm currently letting it idle in Windows and the probe is only reading a steady 79-80 F/27-28 C. Sooo.... I dunno. The idea of it all is still making me nervous. :(

Another test you could perform is to have your system running with the case open, and then aiming a desktop fan at the cpu (causing major airflow). If temps don't change noticably, you defenitly have a faulty reading. It's nothing big, but like you said, enough to make one nervous....
