My mothers Gateway..lol..enough said eh?..is acting strange lately...when ya hit the power button it starts to power up then shuts down and will do this random and sometimes 5 times or more untill finally powering up..no system crashes while up and running ..no sudden restarts while in Windows..it just does it during the 1st 3 seconds of hitting the power. doesnt even have time to start the post process..i think its a power supply going ,but shouldnt it be crashing ? it did this just once a while back and stopped i thought.. maybe she just lightly tapped the power button and it was a fluke, but now its obvious its not..theres only one fan in the computer which is a slot 1, 545MHZ i think ,500 something.. which is about 2 years old now and i always, every month or so, use light comperssed air to blow the dust out..doesnt some boards? bios's? detect fan speed and will power down if they dont spin up to a certain RPM within a givin amount of time? the fan works, but im not possitive its at its best..just wanting to see if anyone has ever been down this path im sure its the fan or power supply or both..anyone had this problem?

If this is an AMD processor it could fry fast, but your problem sounds like the 200 or 250watt power supply that gateway uses? yes some boards moniter temps and fan speed but i can say if it's gateway it's most likly not one of them.if it is only about 2 years old your hardware warrenty is still Valid use it.

Its a Pentium processor..and took at look at it today and the PSU was just a 200 and everything in the world is plugged into that thing, so it should have been obvious to me it may be getting overloaded..it has a printer ..scanner, optical mouse..may be just to much for that 200 watt PSU the warrentte is just about up and they require the old part returned and there just going to send me back another 200 watt so im just going to order a bigger one and call it a day..because she plans on a burner soon too ..u about have to threaten them and spend 3 days assuring them that a restore wont fix the problem..so we will end up owning the computer and may as well go ahead and get a better one myself.
