Hi, I recently transferred my system to a new case and all is well except my PC now takes 3 Minutes between the Black Windows XP pro. screen and the Welcome screen .
Sometimes during this 'blank' period the pc will reboot itself.
any ideas please?
Regards

WOW, there is a start up folder in windows XP, which boots up every program under that folder- i once read it in a mag that it would increase your boot up speed. In the mean time try nitroboot which can be downloaded from Computeractives site i dont know the URL so i suggest you google it. I have also been looking for this start up folder as my laptop is taking ages to boot.

Kat64,
Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums!

Before you download anything to boot quicker, please tell us more about your system. If you have lots of programs and they are all set to load on startup, you would have slower bootup times. In that case, 'msconfig' is your friend, though Black Viper recommends to use something else, either will work.

Many programs work if you open them manually and they aren't reliant on being loaded at startup or running in the background either. But most installs automatically set themselves up to load with every boot.

Black Viper (http://www.blackviper.com/index.html) is another friend (site) that can help you trim down your loadup programs and significantly speed up boot times. This page (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/xpprofiles.htm) at their site has some tweaks you can do without adding more clutter to your system.

New case??????

We need to look at the case and make are cables, jumpers, etc are plugged into the correct place and the BIOS matches the hardware, eg, new/added USB ports. Trae your steps back with the MOBO installation in the new case and double check everything.

Is this a harddrive that has been installed into a totally new box with new vid card and possibly a new mobo?

My thoughts exactly. Was the operating system re-installed to take account of the new setup?
