i have a scanner made from mustek.
i loaded the software and ran the program.
after i run the program and the scanner, now when i go to print after scanning or print alone it gives me a error at lpt port.
after awhile it works again. also i know it slows the computer down. i see this when i run the mouse, it slows down. i uninstall the program and it works fine.i thought it was my old computer which it was a 300 mhz with
64 megs of ram. so i bought a new computer 750 mhz and 64 megs of ram and stil does it.is the computer lacking memory and i need more or what.
will a usb scanner work better than using the printer port.
what do i need to do with this scanner or is it the memory.

Sounds like an IRQ conflick. USB is good for over coming this, being they
don't require an IRQ. That would be the easy way. More memery is good.
128 should be the minimum.

Greg.
What you are running into is the memory shortage
and the CPU intensive program. ( Scanners)

The reason your mouse is slowing / jerky is the CPU must spend most of its cycles doing the scanning.

A Lot of Free memory is a Must when using a scanner.
Check out the link below it should answer some of your questions . http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000254.html

To answer your question about the LPT error.
When you use a pass thru scanner/printer on an LPT .
The system is not able to detect the difference between the printer and the scanner.

In most cases you must have both units powered up before you boot the system.
If you turn on one at boot and the other later it will cause errors ..

In another post you ask what is the best scanner to use? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001632.html

By this do You mean what type?
LPT, USB , SCSI ?

If it's a personal preference your asking about .

I prefer SCSI 5/10 meg per second transfer rate
Combined with a reasonable CPU speed gives acceptable performance.

To ERR is HUMAN
To REALLY screw things UP, YOU NEED a COMPUTER !
