whenever i start my P3 500mhz , after the mem check i get this error:
Please reselect the cpu speed ... press any key to continue,
and when i press any key it, straightway goes to (AMI)bios settings
and the only way out is by selecting EXIT WITHOUT SAVING (YES)

i m 100% sure all my bios settings r correct and this problem has started few months ago (abt 2 yr old pc).i have not installed any new devices.

i also posted this problem on http://www.programmersheaven.com/community/MsgBoard/read.asp?Board=19&MsgI D=81648&Setting=A9999F0001 (http://www.programmersheaven.com/community/MsgBoard/read.asp?Board=19&MsgID=81648&Setting=A9999F0001) but it didnt help, although the ppl there were helpful.

plz let me know if u guyz have a way out. u may click the above link and read the replies.

Try replacing the CMOS battery...

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Ok complete system details are in order here....

Is this an off the shelf machine (like an HP, Compaq. etc)?

You have been kicking around with this problem for almost a year?

What happens if you exit by saving the settings?

Have you updated your BIOS?

Is this an off the shelf machine (like an HP, Compaq. etc)?
>> its an assembled machine (mercury intel 810 chipset with AMI bios, samsung HDD, sony FDD, samtel montior, acre kb, microsoft mouse ...)

What happens if you exit by saving the settings?
>> when i save the settings and exit , everything happens as it happened b4 the problem cropped up , but if i do not save the settings and exit, then the same screen appears (reselect cpu speed) and again i have to enter bios and repeat the procedure.

Have you updated your BIOS?
>> no not yet, coz i think its not flash bios and frankly speakin i fear updatin it coz if my machine goes kaput after doin so, my dad's sure gonna kill me. (coz few months back i crashed my new harddisk, while just doin all kinds of "exploring my comp" work.
regardin the bios battery ... i changed it but it didnt help.

?? also 1 more problem. i have assigned a password to the bios, so wheneever i enter bios, i m prompted to enter passwrd and if i dont enter and press "enter key" thrice the nagging passwrd screen goes away and voila ... here i can see the bios screen (without entering passwrd)
