My setup is the same as this (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21872) thread describes, with A connected to B via a crossover cable (but not being able to share files) and B connected to the rest of the network (and the internet) wirelessly. B has both a regular ethernet NIC and a wireless one.

But, computer A is running windows 95.

Is there any way to do this under Win95? I know it's a clumsy solution, but this is really just a temporary fix until I figure out what to do with comp A.
Thanks!

Why are you trying to accomplish something that was reported in the linked thread as a kludge....??????????

What kind of internet access?

How far apart are the PC's?

What OS is the non 95 PC?

1. Because this is really just a temporary solution...either I will get a wireless card eventually or get rid of the computer.

2. DSL internet access, but it really doesn't matter if it is slow (as I suspect it will be.)

3. The two PC's are in the basement a few feet apart (the rest of my computers are on a second floor)

4 Windows 98SE.

Hope this helps.

How many PC's total?

How many in the basement?

How many upstairs?

Where is the DSL modem? Internal or external?

Who is DSL provider?

What type of service? PPPoE?

5 pc's total, 2 in the basement and 3 upstairs.

The external dsl modem is connected to a wireless router, which is wired to one of the computers upstairs. The other pc's connect wirelessly.
My DSL provider is Zoomtown, which I think is not PPPoE, but I am not sure. That's "point to point over ethernet," isn't it? Is there any way to check?

What you need to do is get wireless cards for the Win98 PC's in the basement

OR

Run a Cat-5 cable from the basement to the router and hard wire in the PC's. You will also need a hub in the basement.

Well, I can't go cutting holes in the walls/ceiling right now...

Is there any way to do it under Linux so it works? or windows 98, or 2000? those are the os's I have right now.

Thanks!

I know nothing about Linnux.

You should be able to get PCI wirless cards for the PC's in the basement.
