What you need to have available in writing before you start.

1) A unique name for each PC of less than 8 characters.
2) A name for the network different then the PC names

Run the network wizzard on the XP box and DO NOT make a disk. Use the computer name for the name of the PC and the network name should replace the stupid MSHOME default.

After completing the wizzard on the XP box and re-booting. Go to the 2K box and login with admin priveleges. and rt click on MY computer choose properties. There will be a Network Identification tab. Click on that and click on the ID button. Use the name from above and again make sure the workgroup is the same as on the XP computer.

Rt click on my computer and choose manage. Click on users and groups. Make a user name that matches the login name of the XP box.

You should be ok at that point and both PC's should see each other in the my netwprk places. Please post back and advise.

You'll also need to enable files sharing. Then you' need to enable sharing for whatever folder(s) you want to share. On the W2K machine, simple go to the folder, right click, select Sharing, and tick Share This Folder.

Since he is a newbie, I wanted to go very slowly and make sure he could see the PC's before we got into file sharing.
