a dead Intel al440lx mother board/celeron CPU

I sure hope someone can help me with this. I think I have jumped in over my head this time!! I recently purchased an Intel al440lx mother board, and collected the following parts to build a computer:
Intel al440lx mother board
STB velocity 128 agp video card
MSI MS-6905 socket 370 to slot 1 converter
Celeron 433 CPU
32 MB DIMM ram (1 stick installed in bank 0)
ATX standard power supply
I put it all together very carefully with full static protection, and set the one and only jumper on the mobo to "config". I very carefully set all the jumpers on the CPU adapter to the correct settings.
When turning on the system, absolutely nothing happens. No beep, no flicker on the monitor. In fact, the monitor stays in standby mode. The CPU does get warm, as does the control chipset, so it seems they are at least getting power. Could this be a problem related to use of the slocket/celeron, versus an incompatible bios? I would think there would at least be a beep???? The manuals say the celeron processors are supported. Please help! Thanks.

Hello,

Don't think the slocket adapter would be causing this problem. I would pull the board from the case and set it on a piece of cardboard on a table. Hook up the monitor and power supply. If you see the board try to post, then it most likley is grounding out to the case. You can get cardboard washers to insulate the mounting screws.

Somebody will surley be along with some other ideas.

Thanks, CJ, but since I posted my complaint, I have banged my head against the wall, and came up with the solution!! I'll explain here in case someone else can learn from my experience. I bought the mobo with the bios programmed for a different CPU. I installed a celeron cpu with an adapter to fit the slot 1. So, since the mobo could not communicate with the faster cpu, it just sat there and played dead. The fix was to go to a different computer, and make a "bootable bios update floppy". This was done by downloading the data from the intel site. Then, I had to pull the jumper on the mother board so it would go into "recovery" mode. Then it was just a simple matter of sticking in the floppy, and starting up the computer. Like magic, everything worked without a hitch. Incidentally, if anyone out there wants to upgrade their al440lx motherboard, make sure you get the right bios! To use a celeron 433 chip, you MUST have version P14!
