Hi. please help if u can. I've got a Supermicro P6SBA MB with PII 350MHz and 128MB RAM.
An attempt at installing a new DVD drive resulted in the boot process only getting as far as showing the graphics card's bios display and a flashing cursor underneath. No error messages or beep codes. not even one beep. power LEDs are on and HDs spin up. I've tried removing components one by one, swapping cards and running the system bare. still the same result.
is this a dead motherboard, dead BIOS chip. damaged by a momentary loss of muscular coordination during upgrade? have i killed my MB?
the new dvd drive is back in its box awaiting the day all is well.
i hope its soon.

The first thing to do is to check the cables....all the IDE cables, then check that any other internal connections have not been dsiturbed. It kind of looks like POST is not occurring (Power On Self Test) or hanging at some point in the hardware detection. After making sure all the cables and connections are secure you should probably reset the BIOS defaults, the can be achieved by clearing the CMOS (either removing the 'clear CMOS" jumper or the battery, having a manual for the motherboard is also a good idea, it should have this procedure outlined).

If this doesn't seem to get you anywhere or you need more help post back....

Something else to look at is make sure the jumpers on the DVD drive are set correctly, ie for master or slave. If you have two drives set for master it may cause the system to hang while booting.
