Hello, everyone:
I'm new to this forum and want to get some help from you.

I purchased a Cerelon 433 three years ago. It used to have dual o/s (me & nt server 4.0). I worked unstably for a while and I thought it might be because of the two o/s so I partioned and formated it about a week ago with just loading ME. It worked fine for a couple of days and then it suddenly froze irregularily but it still could be started up. Just the other day, it didn't start up at all. No matter what I did (with ME or 98 startup disks, warm or cold boot),nothing came up to the screen. It read the floppy for a while but that was it. I couldn't turn the power off by the front switch so I had to use the power swith in the back to turn it off. I though it might be because I installed the old model sound card before I reinstall the o/s so I unpluged it. It is still dead. Is is possible there is something wrong with my hardware? When I reinstalled the O/S, I didn't get any message with that.

Thank you for your time and help.

at sartup canyou here beep? if not, check motherboard's power suplly, loose connection or any shorting may cause of the problem. remove all connection like hd floppy cd drive and try to boot with startup disk, check the motherboard's component for overhit. check also voltege of psu. You can find the voltege on this page http://www.computerhope.com/help/ps.htm if it start then plug the soket one by one and find the reason.

Thanks Gandhinagar. It beeped more than once when I started up it. Anyway, I'll go through those components one by one and hope I can find the problem. I'll let you know what I find.

Hi, Gandhinagar. I disconnected those components and reconnected them one by one. The computer is working normally now. So, you are right. The problem caused the computer dead was something wrong with the connection. Thank you very much for the help.

There is one more thing I need to deal with. My moderm doesn't function. When I tried to go to the internet,I didn't hear the dialing tones and got an error message "Moderm connection error". I suspect either I did something not correctly when I reconnected the components or I need to do something with the moderm driver. What do you think?

Thanks. Have a nice day!

Thanks,Whyzman, for your instruction. I have solved the problem by manually selecting the names of the manufacturer and the modem. It is now working fine.

Be happy and healthy!
