It may be because of my 256k tiscali sagem 800 usb modem.

I try and share and when I try clicking internet explorer on other networked PC, it says that I need to connect to an ISP?

They are both running SP1, I dont like SP2, there both legal XP home copies, and they are connected only via RJ45 cables, one from Upstairs pc into hub, other wire from downstairs from PC into hub.

The hub is Ethernet 10/100mbps.

I could share files and printers but not internet?

My upstairs IP for network = 192.168.0.2
My downstairs IP for network with net running = 192.168.0.1

Could someone offer me any suggestions?

PS. The subnet? is 255.255.255.0

Edit: The modem is an ASDL modem 256k but I have to dialup ADSL number with a username and password everytime I start up my PC.

Edit: The modem connects to PC via USB, the USB plugs into PC, other end modem, then telephone wire thing into a ADSL filter, then that plugs into house phoneline socket.

This jumped out at me, DO NOT use a filter on the telephone line going directly into the ADSL modem for the PC. The filter is used to block hiss in voice phones and similar devices, you have to have the hiss going to the modem to carry the DSL information.

What mechanism are you using or what have you done to share the internet?
The network configuration is all setup. But, looks like you haven't done anything to share the internet connection. Have you enabled ICS(Internet Connection Sharing? If you haven't used any internet sharing mechanism, ICS might be the best in your situation.

Plzz post back.
