View Full Version : What is 'assembly' folder in C:/Windows?

My System is Windows 98SE.

I noticed a folder in C:/Windows named 'assembly' at nearly 15Mb in size.
It contains another folder called 'GAC', containing numerous sub-folders.

I've never seen it in the past, and can only assume it was put there as a result of an aborted installation.

Can anyone enlighten me as to its purpose?

Perhaps others can shed more light on this for you, but I did find this article that seems to shed some light on your question:

I didn't pay the subscription price to further investigate, but did find the opening salvo informative...

Thanks Whyzman:

I checked out the page, and the '.NET program' bit seems to be familiar.
I may, at sometime, have clicked on the Microsoft .Net Framework setup file for some info. I was just wondering if it could be deleted if not associated with any program I have.

Wish I could help you there...that sounds like a Paul Komski question... :)
