router + Linux + Windows = ??

can linux see Windows XP (or vice versa) through the router? If so, how? I know it can get on the net through the router, but can it ever see the XP comp?

Routers deal with IP, and forward packets based solely on the IP address. They do not care, nor can they tell if either the source or the destination is running Windows, Linux, Unix, OS X, or even DOS.

If the router has an inbuilt switch then it is possible to share files between windows and linux by installing Samba on the linux box, and configuring file-sharing on the windows machine.
