I am setting up a new network in our office. Currently we have new Dell Optiplex GX280 with XP Pro on them running through a Dell Poweredge 420 server running Windows Server 2003. We are on DSL using a Intellinet Router and a Dell 2608 switch.

We are installing pcAnywhere as required by one of our third party software tech support.

I got pc Anywhere installed no problem however I am being told by the 3rd party software tech support that I need to open ports 5631 and 5632. I do not know how to do this.

Can someone help a poor sap who got this dumped in his lap?

Thanks

You don't have to open those ports yourself. I mean, the program pcanywhere(or one of its process) will open it for you when its running.
If you have firewall installed, you have to configure your firewall to allow pcanywhere to use those ports and communicate through it. This is what the pcanywhere tech probably meant.

I'm very sorry to say that I don't use Norton Firewall so I can't tell you the exact configuration for that. It shoud be easy to figure out though, just set the pcanywhere to trusted application or whatever the term norton uses. I hope other folks here using Norton Firewall can help you configure it. Or if its urgent, and if you cannot figure out how to configure the firewall, you may disable it temporarily while using pcanywhere.

Its probably under "Personal Firewall" button, something like Internet Access Control, where you can add pcanywhere and its services and then set Permit this application access to the internet or something like that. Pcanywhere is also a symantec(maker of norton products) product so the pcanywhere tech might help you to configure it.
