View Full Version : Question re MyWebSearch and HJT Log

Scarlett
03-22-2005, 02:28 PM
Spybot S&D found 17 entries for MyWebSearch. Before doing anything else, I ran a HJT scan. So far as I can see, there is nothing related to MyWebSearch in the HJT log. Please reveiw the log (in two separate posts due to excessive length) and let me know what I need to do in order to remove MyWebSearch. Many thanks! ~ Scarlett

try to intall the Microsoft antispyware, these should help you take out all the spywares from your computer

Scarlett, please wait for the HJT Pros to respond before doing anything ;)

igardea, MS Antispyware is still in beta. It is not a good idea to recommend ANY Beta prog to someone who may not be computer savy enough to understand the ramifications of using a beta prog. Scarlett needs help removing a serious spyware problem, not getting involved in another program issue here. ;)

i already take out that virus from a client's computer, using the ms antispyware, laters

I'm glad to hear that igardea ;) keep up the good work. I do believe this would be classified as "Spyware" but as long as it is wiped out......

Igardea, thanks for the suggestion. I am not familiar with the Microsoft antispyware software, and I am reluctant to try anything new on my own. I generally get excellent advice from the HJT experts, and I feel that I should wait for their response to my current problem. I do appreciate your taking the time to post a possible solution.

Bassman, thank you also for your response. I will be waiting to hear from the HJT experts before trying to "fix" anything. I did not allow Spybot S&D to attempt a fix for this problem, but I found it odd that HJT did not report any MyWebSearch keys. I have not run AdAware yet. Perhaps I will do that and report back what, if anything, it finds.

I may have other problems as well. I have noticed a lag time between typing a character and its appearance on the screen. My first thought was a keystroke logger, but I don't really know what those symptoms are, so I will just wait patiently to learn what my next step should be.

Many thanks!

Scarlett

Scarlett,

I always defer to the HJT experts here however, let me ask you a question. Is there more than one user account on this computer? The reason I ask is that HJT scans are not entirely global in nature. That is, lets say there are two user accounts and you are logged in and run HJT, it can miss things that are specific to the other account. So HJT has to be run for each user account on the PC.

Finally, I see you are using PestPatrol and some flavor of Norton (System Works?). I don't know how Spybot works "after" PestPatrol. Where on the PC did Spybot find the bugs? Is it possible that they are something that PestPatrol had in quarranteen? Meaning they were previously "fixed" but not deleted and Spybot sees the remnants. If they were files, Spybot should tell you the path, the location on your PC where the bugs or their remnants are.

A thurough antivirus, adware, spyware scan and allowing them to fix anything they find would be in order at this point. ;)

The best way to remove MyWebSearch is to uninstall it... It is possible that there are just bits of it left on your system... HJT does NOT do a thorough cleaning, it just removes the Registry entries for the program in question... I would go ahead and clean those hits out with Spybot and/or Ad-Aware and/or MS Antispyware...

Your log looks clean, but you still could have something that is not being picked up by HJT... If you still have problems after the scans, post back and there are a couple of other scans you can try to see if anything else is lurking...
