I'm running a PIII 866 with 128mb RAM with WinME. Every time I use quite a few applications then attempt to Shutdown, I get a blue screen with an error saying 'Windows Protection Error. Please restart your computer. System Halted'. How do I fix this ?

Seems like one or more of the several programs you have runnig is not behaving well when the shutdown signal is given...try turning of the programs one at a time and see if you get the same error, note which ones you shut off and then try another......

Thanks for the response ! I don't have a problem shutting down each application. It's after they're all closed, when I try to Shutdown windows, that this error occurs.

WINDOWS PROTECTION ERRORS can occur under any of these conditions:

- if the registry is damaged.
-if there is an I/O address conflict or RAM address conflict.
-if there is a real-mode driver and protected-mode driver conflict.
-if either the Win.com or Command.com file are infected with a virus or damaged.
-if a protected-mode driver is loaded form the system.ini file and the drive has already been initialized.
-if the Plug & Play feature on a computer's BIOS is not working correctly.
-if the computer contains a malfunctioning cache or malfunctioning memory.
-if the motherboard is not working properly.
-if there is an incorrect CMOS setting for a built-in peripheral device. (ie. CPU timing or hard drive)
-if you have installed Office 97 and are using Novell Client 32 software.

Is that all there is to the message you have been getting?
