compaq 1200 power shutting off

Installed a new hard drive in compaq pressario 1200. I then installed windows and now it just turns off. i can get into bios and to a startup screen that asks to boot of disk or hard disk. but power usually turns off at that point. any ideas?

When you go into bios check Power Management options that system standby is set to 'never'. Also try removing the battery and boot. Could be other things but this is a starting point.

You need the Compaq install disk. It has the necessary drivers for your system to function properly. If you do not have the original install disks, contact Compaq tech support and request them. I got mine for the cost of shipping. ;)

Thankyou I will try the install disk. Booting without the battery didn't work.
