hello,i was wondering if anyone can explain those stupid page faults windows like to throw at you.
I have a amd athlon 1ghz systen with 128m ram,15g hd,tnt2 video card, and windows 98se. a prety decent system.i purchased it off my boss at work about 6 months ago and it's always benn a little unstable but it seems to be getting worse.i like winamp, and recently i started downloading plugins and efects, and everytime i try to launch a plugin during a song i get an "invalid page fault",wich seemed to spark those illegal operations everywhere.i get them on the web now (atleast four times i had to re-connect)and "kernall32dll"(?).please your advise and expertise is greatly apreciated.
p.s. i've told my boss who built it,but we don't get along too well anymore
(that's what i get)all he'll tell me is "it's windows,that's the way it is".

Hey Krebby, Welcome to the PC Guide Forums.

Sorry to hear about the problem with your boss http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif but he may be partialy correct.
If the system has always been a little unstable, it may have been a bad install to begin with.
It will most likely continue to corrupt http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

We don't usualy recommend a full reinstall, but I think in your situation, that may be your best chioce.

Before you go that far though, lets check a few things.
During normal operation, what are your system free resources? (R-click "MyComputer">properties>performance tab)
How many programs are running in the background? (Ctrl-Alt-Del keys all together one time)
What other programs (besides the winamp stuff) have been recently installed?

Yes it's windows, but that is not the way it's supposed to be http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

Thanks for the welcome bassman,it's good to be here.
and thanks for the advise,my system recources are 72% free as i'm wrighting this.i realy haven't downloaded anything recently besides my winamp upgrade, some plug ins and skins for my winamp.i did however make the dreaded mistake about two weeks ago to upgrade my realplayer to the new "realone"player wich i will be uninstalling in the near future.it seemed to want to take over my system and use it as my default aplication for everyting (mp3s,video,even my sound wave files in windows)without asking my permision first wich bothered me.
as far as programs runnung in the backround,i've always kept them to a select few,my required windows programs, and norton anti-virus.
everytime i install a program i check to make sure it won't run in the backround unless i want it to.knowing this can hurt performance,i keep a close eye on it.
today i reinstalled windows 98 over my current copy, wich seemed to add some stability (no invalid page faults yet!).the main error i was getting was a "ddeml.dll" error stating the file had been replaced by an older version by a program i recently ran......(winamp?).
hopefuly i have fixed the bugs,if not i will resort to the clean install.
thanks again bassman, your insight and advise is greatly apreciated.

When you receive this error there is a possibility that the ddeml.dll file was replaced by another version of the same name. Use the SFC windows utility to extract the original version from the Windows 98se CD disk.that should get rid of that error.
