hey guys i have 2 computers that are connected to a router and im trying to network them (both run xp). I follow all the instructions on the network wizard and i selected a workgroup name and all that good stuff but i get a screen that tells me i need to run the wizard on both computers to complete the operation and after i did nothing has happened, when i try to access MSHOME (name of group) it says that it is not accesible and i might not have permission from the administrator to the folder, what do i do because ive set up a network here at home along time ago and got it to work but now im puzzled, thank you

I have been having problems of this sort also. PC1 runs XP and PC2 runs win98. I found most of the answers that I needed in the section on 'Local Area Networking'. Start there by reading previous posts and suggestions made by some very helpful people. I created most of the problems I had by incorrect network configurations. If you still have problems after reading these and comparing to your setup, start a new thread there. Later!

Hi ESPplayer7.
In order for file sharing to work, you will have to share at least one folder (technically called creating a network share). To do this, go into Windows Explorer, select a file you'd like to share, right click it. Then choose Security, open the security tab and check the box that says 'Share this folder on the network.' Once you have done this, restart both machines and go into Network Neighborhood and see if you can't access the folder from the other machine. Also for the time being (until we get this working), you may want to disable your Windows firewall - it only adds another layer of complication.

You need to tell us what flavor of XP you are running. Pro or Home?
You should definitely disable the firewall as it prevents network traffic. It's the first step I take when setting up a home network.
