History, I have a PC that keeps losing its ability to get into the operating sytem within weeks or days after it has been installed. This seems to be an occuring problem. At first I thought it might be a corrupt os but I have installed 95 98 and just installed XP. When I turn on the PC It gives me an option for safe mode or with XP it gives me an option also for networking etc and an option to use last know working state, neither option works it just keeps going back into an option but actually won't go to one of those states. I tried transfering sys files but after I do that it stills go into this safe mode option but it won't go into safe mode. Like I said this occurs with days or weeks after I installed windows. At first when it happenned i thought it might be a virus but I installed windows from a formatted hard drive and I fdisk and reset the partition .Like I said this happened several times and I just reinstalled the OS. the Pc is P3 800mh 128ram dvd and cd-writer. The only thing I can think of is a bad motherboard or maybe just maybe power supply problem. Sorry for the long note just trying to give the facts. Help

Help from those in need.

Dear Randy:

It seems to me that your hard disk may be the problem. When the system boots, the bios should tell you the make and model of the hard drive.

Go the web-site of the manufacturer of the hard drive and download the diagnostic software and check out your drive.

Let us know what you find

I definitely second the motion on the hard drive diagnostics......

I installed another hard drive that I had not as big 6 gig, it seems to be working fine now it been about 9 days no problem so i think it was the hard drive. I do have one question, Western digital and maxtor both have easily accessible dignostic tools on the web, The hard drive I took out of the computer was a fujitsu, and I had prblem getting diagnostic tools for it. That is why I used another hard drive. my question is, are there any software that you can buy that that have dignostic tools. Ex low level formatting and disk diagnosticetc? Anyway thanks for those who replied like I said it seems to be working now.

For those who need to know.

There are a few programs that will allow you to do a limited amount of disk diagnostics
Nortons disk doctor for one example.

However when you start dealing with Low level format.
The only place to look is at the manufactures site

Seagate's Diagnostic Tools will examine other manufacturers disks but won't have as many options as when using a Seagate HD.
