Trying to use the offline file facility on Win XP pro, but after rebooting the computers, the 'enable offline files' becomes unchecked (and therefore unavailable)
I have a linksys Network Attached Storage server (NSLU2) with a HDD attached via USB.
Files on this disk are used by a couple of computers, and I set up both machines to use the files offline, with synchronising to be done at log-off.
It worked fine until reboot - both machines then lost the shortcut to offline files, and on the offline file section of tools, the 'enable offline files' option becomes unchecked. This isn't a major problem (but an annoyance) when using an admin account, but using a Limited User account means it's impossible to use the files. I have to go in as an admin, check the box, log off, then log back in as the limited user. This has to be done every time I boot the system.
I'm using XP with SP2 on both machines. I've seen a few posts on the net saying that similar problems occur with SP2, but haven't seen any definitive solution - anyone have any suggestions?
Removing SP2 is obviously an option, but I'm not sure how that will affect the stability or security of the PCs.
