Hey'all
Anyone know of an Excel plugin (or perhaps where to look) which will highlight the currently selected row. I want this to change as I move down the rows - would be REALLY helpful when using sheets with loads of columns!
Any idea if this sort of plugin is possible? (if so then someone MUST have made one by now!!)
:)
Thanks in advance!

Unless you specifically want an Excel plug-in (add-in?), you should be able to do this with VBA in the code module behind the sheet in question. From your question it occurs there are two possible ways to highlight the row:
(1) as a selection
(2) with a color
The first method is easier and less messy in some respects, but provided you haven't already color highlighted other (data) rows, ie excluding header columns, then using a color highlight would not be so "messy".
I'll send you a file to demonstrate how each works.

Hiya peeps,
I definately meant an add-in - I've had a little look at that link Rhd, cheers - couldn't find anything that they sell that'd do the trick. None of the people selling add-ins seem to have this function, perhaps it's not possible. (Unless I can convince MS to change it at source!)
OfficeIgnoramus, welcome to the PC Guide and thanks for your response, I don't mind if it's a selection or a colour to be honest, but I don't think a selection would be possible, as I actually need to be able to type in the row as well as indicate wihch row I'm on!
Thanks again!

I am not exactly sure what it is you are trying to accomplish but when you select and highlight a column, go up to the upper right part of the toobar you should see the fill color 'bucket'. If you select a color and apply it to the column, as you add additional data in new cells, it will extend the color of the column into the new cell. Is your version of Excel an older version or is it new? Mine is part of MS Office XP ver. 2002. Try this and see if this is the function you wanted. Later!
In the sheet that I was testing, the color only moved if I went straight downward from the 'color highlighted' area. When I added data in the row and moved horizontally, the color did not extend. I am not sure how to get it to do this. But I know someone who probably does, or perhaps would know how to do so- or say it can't be done! I will contact my better half and see what she says. NOTE: It is storming here and it may be a bit before I can get back online. Later!!

You are able to select an entire column by left clicking the column head button(A,B,C,D,...) and assign a fill color to the entire column. I was not able to get it to add color as I went, Sorry. When you select and assign a new fill color, the cell divider lines are covered up so if you need them, you will have to -->format-cells-border-inside while the column is still highlighted. You may also have to select the style of lines you need. I hope this helps you. Later!

Hiya Rwh!
Hope that storm's over by now :) - Thanks for the advice, but it's not entirely what I'm trying to achieve. What I would like, and I think this will only be possible with an add-in, is for the the row I am on to be highlighted as I move down the sheet. So I could be on one row, hit the down arrow on the keyboard, the row I was on will un-highlight and the new row will be highlighted.
I'm totally not explaining it properly, but it's pretty irrelevant, I don't think it's available / possible.
Thanks anyway bud :)
