I'm now using Mozilla--FireFox and ThunderBird. If I download an update for ThunderBird, should I un-install my existing version before I install the update? And, if I do un-install the current version, will I loose what I have in my mail boxes?
Thanks.

This is a timely question. I'm running v1.0 and I think ThunderBird is up to 1.02. Hopefully one of the TBird vets will correct me if my guess here is wrong.

I think it will be the same as with FireFox. That is, the normal routine is uninstall and then install the update. The uninstall does not remove everything, profile settings and such remain. In fact, a number of directories will still be there. One thing that will happen is Extensions and Themes will be disabled, but that's by design and they can be renenabled after the upgrade, assuming they are still compatible. If they are no longer compatible, we'll have to wait for updates to them.

More info is available here (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq#q1.4) and is specific to individual releases.

I always uninstall Firefox and Thunderbird first - otherwise I end up with 2 entries in my Add/Remove Programs list...

The preferred method is to uninstall and then re-install unless the program installs itself when you update internally.

You guys were right. I did the uninstall and reinstall without losing anything.
When I did the uninstall, after it removed it, a box popped up and said that it didn't remove everything. And it asked me if I also wanted to remove the folder. I clicked on "No" so as not to remove the folder. Everything seems to be working fine. I didn't even lose my signature that I use when I send mail. Thanks for the feedback.
