Hello SouthernRain. Welcome to the PC guide.

What version of Windows are you running?

Can you boot with a floppy? If you can,try dir c: from the a: prompt. The "Data error" message suggests the MBR on the hard drive is corrupted, or the drive is failing http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Any system, however complicated, if looked at in exactly the right way, will become even more complicated.

Like has been sugested try booting with a bootsidk, especially if running a 9x version of windows...if running 2k or XP, you can try booting to the CD and then repairing the install from there...but it kind of sounds like the drive may be dying.

I vote for a failing hard drive.

Try the above suggestions and get your data off of thet drive before it;s to late....

Are your drive parameters correctly Configured in the "BIOS Setup". If not the drive will not work and of course the software will be unable to "Read Drive C" or any other partition on that drive.
Best to have all your drives set to "Auto" so they will be "Dynamically Auto detected" at each and every boot. That way even if you change you drive or the settings get altered [perhaps by the system automatically reverting to default settings]all will be well since the configuration settings will be correct every time.
