Ok that was a dumb A$$ title but what the heck if it gets views right..? ANYWAY

I have a Challenge (I prefer that over calling it a problem). When I am online downloading a lot of things (P2P) I loose internet connection after awhile. Most of the time when I start I can download for awhile (30 minutes of straight high-speed downloading) and then the connection drops. I fix it and then 20 minutes later it drops again, then 10 and 5 minutes etc... to the point where I stop downloading and just surf. When the connection drops I run repair on my LAN connection (this is a wired config not wireless) and that doesn't do anything, so I have to reset my modem.. unplug and plug back in 10 seconds later. That solves the problem. I don't ever get dropped when I surf or am watching multi-media online or anything of that sort, it seems to be related to downloads, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with my ISP, kicking me off for hogging bandwidth (maybe?). I don't know though, that is why I'm asking. Here are my specs;

AMD 3200+
1 GB RAM
200GBHD (40GB free between the partitions)
XP PRO
Linksys Cable Modem (BEFCMU10) hooked to a Linksys Wireless router (WRT54G)

I would contact the ISP and have them look into it. If your using DSL, for example, that problem might be caused by noise picked up by the dsl line from another line close to it. ( DLS lines hate noise from other lines like ISDN if I remember correctly) also a bad modem can cause that problem too.

You are correct that ISP line rules will sometimes allow you a fast download speed when you first start your download and then you'll see that speed drop as the rule takes effect. (Earthlink does this ,for example, dropping you down from broadband speed to 56k) But they don't normally drop your connection, they just slow you down some.

Good Luck :)
