sorry to be a pain as i have never seen this b4 today
5 pcs networked in 2 workgroups all on windows XP
it would seem that pcs in different workgroups can access each others files and computers ?
i was under the impression that to access a shared file you needed to be in the same workgroup or is this superceded if everyone is selected in share permissions ?

The next question would be is this due to some of the Pcs running XPhome ?
or has any one got any idea how i can select the workgroup i wish to share with ?

thanx for any help on this 1 as im lost now lol

Workgroups have nothing to do with access rights. They are used with netbios and the net 'hood to group computers togethere for browsing. Depending on how your network is built and how netbios is working you might not be able to browse another workgroup's computers but you can still access them if you know their name or ip address. (again there are other factors but this is how it works in all versions of Windows with Netbios enabled...all things being equal)

To control file or computer access you should NOT use the everyone group instead assign rights to only those users/groups you want to allow access to that network resource.

Hope this helps :)
